St. Elizabeths East

Redbrick LMD is proud to have been selected twice as the master developer of St. Elizabeths East, a 183-acre campus that includes portions of a former mental health facility established by Congress in the 1850s.

St. Elizabeths is located in the historically significant Congress Heights neighborhood of Ward 8 in Washington DC which today is experiencing some of the highest employment growth in DC.  It is the home of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Coast Guard’s new headquarters and the Cyber Infrastructure Security Agency headquarters is currently under construction.  The CareFirst Arena, home of the national champion Washington Mystics, is also located on the St. Elizabeths campus. Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center GW Health, a new $400 million 136-bed hospital, opened in April 2025.

Redbrick LMD has worked closely with community stakeholders to plan and build density and needed uses in this historic neighborhood that has largely been underserved for decades. To date, Redbrick LMD has delivered an outpatient medical facility which is home to Whitman Walker’s Max Robinson Center, for-sale and rental residences, as well as a community hub with gathering spaces and restaurants, centered on local minority-owned businesses.

1201 Sycamore

Redbrick LMD delivered a 118,000-square-foot outpatient medical services building, with Whitman Walker Health as the anchor tenant, in December 2022. The establishment of the new Max Robinson Center allows Whitman Walker to expand its medical services, including primary and dental care, mental health, and substance abuse, to more than 10,000 patients annually in a community that has lacked sufficient medical care historically. It also serves as a center for research, education, and public advocacy. Other tenants in the building include GW Cancer and Wellness Center, LabCorp, New Hampshire Medical Supply and the District of Columbia  among others. The building is LEED Gold certified.

Sycamore & Oak

Redbrick LMD partnered with Emerson Collective to construct a 22,000 sq ft mass timber building, home to 13 local minority-owned businesses and a community event space with the intent of providing necessary retail, food, and entertainment while stimulating economic growth. This is the first phase of what is anticipated to be a 650,000-square-foot mass timber structure which will include affordable housing, a hotel, and ground floor shops and restaurants, all of which are designed to support local residents as well as the 15,000+ employees now located on the St. Elizabeths campus, including Whitman-Walker, Homeland Security and others. This one-of-a-kind development is designed to maximize impact, with its community-first objective and pioneering approach as the first commercial building in the DC area to be constructed entirely of mass timber. Sycamore & Oak was developed with significant input and partnership with the community based on the expressed need to create wealth for community members via entrepreneurship. Sycamore & Oak is proud to be the home of eight local minority-owned retailers, including the first fitness center east of the Anacostia River, and five minority-owned food vendors mentored by Think Food Group, as well as a food market.

District Towns

Redbrick LMD, in partnership with The Knutson Companies, built 88 beautifully appointed for-sale townhomes, of which 27 are affordable dwelling units. These conveniently located homes range from 1,500 to 2,000 square feet, and many offer rooftop decks and two-car garages.  District Towns is located just steps from the Green Metro line providing easy access to public transportation.

The Residences at St. Elizabeths East

Awarded to Redbrick LMD as Master Developer at St. Elizabeths, this 252-unit apartment building opened in 2019 and was developed by Flaherty & Collins. Affordable units account for 80% of these rental homes which are located in several restored historic buildings in the heart of the St. Elizabeths campus.
