OUR LEGACY
When investing in under-resourced communities, we consider it our duty and privilege to work closely with existing neighbors to spur economic growth, create jobs, and advance equity and inclusion.
We work closely with community and faith leaders, neighborhood groups and elected officials, who are influential and located in the areas in which we construct real estate to ensure our plans are inclusive and aligned with community goals. Our dedicated Community Liaison has eyes and ears on the ground for constant two-way communication.
Community engagement is the heart and center of what we do.
“Centering community is key in our formula for success. This means deeply listening to understand the vision and values held by neighbors, developing innovative partnerships for social impact, sharing our resources, and creating career pathways and opportunities that advance equity and inclusion.”
– Lindsay Morton, Director of Community Engagement and Corporate Impact
OUR
We are keenly focused on contributing to economic activity with job creation in the construction phase and after construction as commercial tenants seek to employ residents from the community. We anticipate over 4,000 permanent new jobs to be directly created by the Bridge District at full build-out.
Early in the construction phase, we plan to invite local and diverse small business owners to utilize our Phase Zero spaces to take a grow-and-learn approach to build their businesses. This could include startups like farmer’s markets, mom and pop style retail booths and food halls to assess restaurant concepts.
We intend to bring much needed neighborhood resources to Anacostia and Congress Heights such as a health center, grocery store, pharmacy and restaurants.
